Participating in the "100% Women" Sanitary Pad Embroidery Event!
Recently, a unique event called "100% Women," centered around embroidering sanitary pads, caught our attention! This initiative focuses on women's health and the stigma surrounding menstruation, using the power of art and public welfare to break the silence and call for greater awareness of women's health. The team at yaean couldn't resist joining in, contributing our creativity and actions to support this meaningful cause. This event is a powerful example of how art can be a catalyst for social change, inspiring us all to use our talents for the greater good!
Our Actions
During our lunch break, yaean colleagues gathered at a nearby park and set up a small embroidery workshop! Stitch by stitch, we transformed everyday items into art, using our creativity to support women's health. These embroidered pieces reflect the exhibition's theme and serve as our heartfelt statement on women's issues.
What was particularly heartwarming was that our embroidery activity in the park drew the attention of many passersby. Curious aunties approached us to learn more about the event and enthusiastically shared their personal experiences from their youth. In those days, menstruation was widely considered a taboo topic, and people avoided discussing it in public. Moreover, sanitary products were inconvenient and uncomfortable and required repeated washing and drying. Women often faced discrimination and prejudice from men when drying these items in public. Purchasing sanitary products was also a discreet affair to avoid drawing attention. Hearing these stories, we deeply felt the constraints and impact of menstrual stigma on women, reinforcing our belief that breaking these traditional norms is not just important, but essential. It's a call to action for all of us to challenge these norms and create a more inclusive and supportive society.
Follow-Up to the Event
The organizers may even select the embroidered pieces from this activity for the '100% Women' exhibition, which will tour nationally. The exhibition, with its central symbol of the uterus, aims to combine artistic expression with scientific education to dismantle the cultural taboos surrounding menstruation. The selection process for the embroidered pieces is rigorous, ensuring that each piece effectively communicates the message of the exhibition. Additionally, a significant portion of the exhibition's proceeds will be used to purchase sanitary pads for girls in rural areas, making a tangible impact on their lives. By participating in this event, yaean hopes to contribute in a small way, advocating for women's health and rights while spreading positive energy.
The exhibition is in full swing and will tour multiple cities across China. It is currently being showcased in Nanjing, running from March 7 to April 8, 2025.
At Yaean Design, we support women through art and action—because change starts with small steps.
